The Importance of Mouth Care – In the Care Home
This Open Badge is awarded to professionals who work or volunteer in the care home environment and look after resident’s mouth care.
NHS Education for Scotland’s vision is to lead through sustainable educational solutions and work collaboratively with key partners to reduce inequalities and improve oral health for priority groups.
To earn the open badge for this course, you will need to:
- Step 1: Complete the e-learning module on NHS Education for Scotland Turas Learn (requires registration to log in) to receive a certificate.
- Step 2: Complete the reflective writing to receive an Open Badge micro-credential (requires registration to log in). To do this, think back to what you learnt in the e-learning module:
- Tell us about this topic (50 words minimum)
- Tell us about three things you learned and why each of these is important to (a) you and (b) people who are residents in the care home where you work or volunteer (150 words minimum)
- Tell us how you will use what you have learned in your day to day work to develop and improve your practice as a care home worker caring for resident’s mouths (125 words minimum)
- Tell us what you did to share what you learned with others (25 words minimum).

This badge is open to anyone regardless of whether they are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council.
