AC/AHSCP Relationship Based Practice
This badge will support learners to review and develop their knowledge of the relationship based practice approach and reflect on how they could develop their skills.
This badge aims to support learners to consider how they build relationships with those around them how they can put relationships at the heart of their practice.
This badge is one part of the NQSW Supported Year badge and will help a NQSW evidence their progression towards the following standards:
Standard 1 – Developing confidence and competence in the process of assessment using critical thinking skills and analysis to inform professional judgement and decision making.
Standard 2 – Collaborate effectively with service users and others to plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
Standard 3 – Positively promoting the wellbeing, support and protection of children and adults at risk of harm.
The criteria set below is an indicative list of sources of knowledge that can be utilised in order to achieve this badge, you may wish to use other sources.

- Read the BASW guidance: Professional Boundaries: Guidance for Social Workers.
- Consolidate previous learning by doing some self-directed reading related to communicating, engaging and sustaining relationships with people across the life span.
- Reflect upon a particular case characterised by a power imbalance and the challenges you faced in sustaining relationships with a service user while delivering your statutory duties.

To successfully complete the badge learners must evidence their understanding of the key issues and demonstrate their application in practice by completing the activities listed below:
- Upload evidence of a discussion with your manager/ mentor about how you sustain a relationship with a service user despite the need for difficult conversations.
- Upload evidence of a discussion reflecting on how you have developed relationships considering positive situations and situations where you have had to over come challenges. Reflecting on what you have given if yourself to develop the relationship.
- Upload evidence of your reflection on your current skills in relation to relationship based practice and any action you intend to take to develop these. This may take the form of a discussion with your mentor/manager or a short reflective account.
- Upload evidence of a case discussion with your manager/ mentor on a case characterised by a power imbalance and the challenges you faced in sustaining relationships while delivering your statutory duties.
These are the minimum evidence requirements only
We will accept evidence in audio, written or pictorial formats. Case examples can be in the format of anonymised records or reports.
