AC/AHSCP Legislation, Policy and Guidance 2019
This badge will help learners to critically analyse their practice by considering the relevant legal framework, national policies, local guidance and operational instructions that influence day to day practice with people who use statutory Social Work services. It will help consolidate knowledge about current legislation and human rights. It will allow learners to demonstrate working to ethical principles and professional codes of conduct.
This badge will help a NQSW evidence their progression towards the following standards:
Standard 1 – Developing confidence and competence in the process of assessment using critical thinking skills and analysis to inform professional judgement and decision making.
Standard 2 – Collaborate effectively with service users and others to plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
Standard 3 – Positively promoting the wellbeing, support and protection of children and adults at risk of harm.
Standard 4 -Developing competence and confidence in the professional Social Work role and in managing complexity in professional decision making, drawing on research, evidence and best practice.
Standard 5 – Demonstrating the habits of a practitioner-researcher through routine continuous learning and enquiry with which to encourage and support the learning of self and others.

- Access the Corporate Intranet to familiarise yourself with Angus Council’s policies and operational instructions pertinent to your role and responsibilities
- Complete e-learning modules (Available on Resource Link):
- Data Protection Act (2018) & GDPR
- Information Governance
- Research Scottish Government Website https://www2.gov.scot/ and key text “Social Care & the Law in Scotland” MacLean, Skinner & Surtees to identify national policies & appropriate legislation relevant to your workplace setting.

To successfully complete the badge learners must evidence their understanding of the key issues and demonstrate their application in practice by completing the activities listed below:
- Share evidence you have completed the Health & Social Care Standards open badge
- Upload certificate of completed e-learning modules-Data Protection and Information Governance.
- Upload evidence of a discussion with your manager or mentor relating to a current case which demonstrates your knowledge and application of: 2 pieces of legislation, policy context and local guidance.
