SCMA Childminders: Realising the Ambition: Being Me
This Open Badge is for Childminders who can demonstrate their understanding of and how they will use “Realising the Ambition: Being Me” to improve their childminding practice.
Completing this Open Badge will enable participants to develop their own understanding of Realising the Ambition: Being Me as a document which provides national practice guidance to support staff in providing high quality early learning and childcare.
Realising the Ambition: Being Me is for anyone who is involved with caring for young children. The Care Inspectorate expect childminders, to be able to demonstrate at inspection how they are using the resource to develop practice and enhance outcomes for children.
Childminders should be able to:
- Draw on their experiences of working with children, reflecting and carrying new ideas forward into their current practice.
- Provide appropriate support to children as they progress through different stages of development.
- Demonstrate the quality experiences children should be exposed to.
To apply for the badge, you must write a statement of no more than 200 words which meets the criteria for the badge. Your statement must fully cover the following:
1. Tell us what you understand about Realising the Ambition: Being Me and what it is for?
2. Tell us how you will apply the theory and national guidance into a practical childminding context.
3. Tell us how you will develop and improve your service through self-reflection and practice change.
You must have attended an SCMA Realising the Ambition: Being Me course
To earn this badge you will need to:
- have completed the SCMA Realising the Ambition: Being Me CPL course
- tell us the following:
- What you understand about Realising the Ambition: Being Me and what it is for?
- Provide some examples of how you will apply the theory and national guidance into a practical childminding context.
- Using examples – how will you develop and improve your service through self-reflection and practice change with what you have learned on this course.

The Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA) is the only organisation dedicated to supporting childminders in Scotland. Our aim is to promote childminding as a quality childcare service. We do this in part by helping SCMA childminders to be the best they can be.
