Change Mental Health: A Rights Based Approach
This badge will explore ways in which service user and carer rights are enshrined in legislation and how these rights are interpreted in social care practice.
A Rights based approach to service delivery puts Service Users at the centre of their care. It is an approach which, based within Equality and Human Rights legislation, guarantees individuals certain securities.
To earn this badge you will need to:
- Read the following policies found in the Support in Mind Scotland Staff Handbook:
Equality and Diversity and Human Rights policy
Service User Involvement policy
- Read the Principles of The Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003
http://www.mwcscot.org.uk/the-law/mental-health-act/principles-of-the-act
- Source and read your Local Authority Carer Strategy.
- Discuss with your line manager or colleagues, ways in which a Rights Based Approach supports ‘good practice’ . Alternatively, you may want to write a short reflective piece in your learning log.
