AC/AHSCP Child Protection (B3773)
This badge will help the learner positively promote the wellbeing, support and protection of children.
This badge is one part of the Protecting People Milestone badge and will help a NQSW evidence their progression towards the following standards:
Standard 1 – Developing confidence and competence in the process of assessment using critical thinking skills and analysis to inform professional judgement and decision making.
Standard 2 – Collaborate effectively with service users and others to plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
Standard 3 – Positively promoting the wellbeing, support and protection of children and adults at risk of harm.
Standard 4 -Developing competence and confidence in the professional Social Work role and in managing complexity in professional decision making, drawing on research, evidence and best practice.
Standard 5 – Demonstrating the habits of a practitioner-researcher through routine continuous learning and enquiry with which to encourage and support the learning of self and others.
Standard 6 – Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the wellbeing of self and others.

The criteria set below is an indicative list of sources of knowledge that can be utilised in order to achieve this badge, you may wish to use other sources.
- Attend at least one child protection case conference
- Make use of NQSW resource : Angus & Dundee NQSW Child Protection Learning Resource
- Read Continuum of Need document
- Attend Rosie 2 training and follow up
- Attend a Safe and Together Briefing
- Access self-identified Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) online resources
- Familiarize self with committee induction process – Induction – Angus Child Protection Committee
- Familiarize self with Initial Case Review (ICR) and Serious Case Review (SCR) process – ACPC ICRSCR Guidance
- Read Operational Instruction on “Responsibilities of Social Work” in child protection (local authority intranet)
- Read Angus Child Protection Committee (CPC) Interagency guidance on Child Protection
CHILDREN’S SERVICE STAFF ONLY
- Attend Children’s needs, assessment and decision making course (bookable through ResourceLink)
- Attend/shadow at least two core group meetings

To successfully complete the badge learners must evidence their understanding of the key issues and demonstrate their application in practice by completing the activities listed below:
- Provide evidence of reflective discussion with team manager or mentor about content of child protection case conference. This must include thresholds of child protection in cases of neglect
- Upload your completed pre-course materials for Rosie 2 training and your discussion with your mentor or team manager after you complete the follow up session
- Provide evidence of your use of the Safe and Together model in practice which details effective analysis of information. (Adult services workers may need to liaise with children’s services to enable a case based discussion)
- Provide a reflective account (500 words indicative) or discussion record of the learning you have gained from using CSE online resources and relevance to practice.
- Upload a short reflection (500 words indicative) which demonstrates:
- your understanding of the relationship between the committee and your practice
- your understanding of the relationship between ICR/SCR guidance and your practice
CHILDREN’S SERVICES STAFF ONLY
- Upload evidence of a discussion with colleagues about your learning from the Children’s Needs Assessment and Decision Making course.
- Provide evidence of discussion with team manager or mentor about content of core group meetings including reflection on multi-agency practice
- 360 feedback on relationship based practice skills in child protection. This must include service user perspective
